VLAN Access Port: Wrong VLAN

VLAN faults are often one incorrect access-port assignment. This lab makes the physical link healthy so the switchport state is where the diagnosis lives.

SwitchingVLAN

The problem

A workstation is connected and has link, but it receives an address from the guest VLAN instead of the engineering VLAN because its switchport is assigned to the wrong access VLAN.

What you'll practice

  • Read access-port VLAN assignment
  • Differentiate access and trunk roles
  • Validate VLAN membership
  • Verify endpoint reachability

The topology

Two access switches carry Engineering and Guest VLANs over a trunk; one endpoint port is intentionally placed in the wrong VLAN.
